A local student will be competing in a nationwide oratorical scholarship competition this weekend.
Kasea Belle Losch is a senior at Butler Senior High School and also one of over 50 regional winners to compete in the American Legion High School Constitutional Speech Contest in Indianapolis.
Without notes and in front of a live audience including judges, each speaker will deliver a rehearsed eight to ten minute address as well as a randomly assigned speech on a constitutional topic. The quarterfinals and semi-finals are Saturday when the field will be narrowed to three. Sunday those three will compete in the finals which will be webcast live at legion.org.
This program has been running for 80 years and those making it to the final round will be awarded scholarships of between $14,000 and $18,000.
