A large crowd gathered at the County Commissioners meeting Thursday speaking on behalf of the District Attorney’s ‘Not in My Backyard’ initiative.
Attorney Tom King addressed the commissioners with an impassioned plea for additions to the DA’s drug task force.
King was accompanied by local pastor Joel Ward, Net Outreach Founder Bill Halle, Interim Superintendent of the Butler Area School District William Pettigrew, and a room full of children.
King asked the commissioners to consider cross-designating deputy sheriffs so they can start investigations in addition to making drug arrests. Sheriff Mike Slupe initiated the idea after talking with other counties in the area.
There was no official proposal made to the commissioners during the meeting.
