Prep work begins this morning on a major construction project on the Parkway North.
The work will span two-and-a-half years and essentially rebuild the parkway. Work will focus on the portion of Interstate 279 between Camp Horne Road and the Fort Duquesne Bridge.
Starting today, the road will be down to one lane in some places and shoulders will be blocked in others. Crews will be building emergency pull-offs and a crossover to the HOV lanes, which will be used during construction.
Southbound lane work will be completed this year and northbound work will take place next year.
