More details have come out about what led police to arrest a Butler man and charge him with killing a missing woman.
Ishemer Ramsey, 21, of Lyndora was arrested by State Police late Saturday and charged with the homicide of 26-year-old Melissa Barto of Butler.
According to the criminal complaint, police began an investigation into Barto’s whereabouts Friday morning after her family reported her missing. Throughout the day on Saturday, the Butler City Police Department received several tips in regards to Barto’s disappearance. One person called police and said they saw Ramsey (who was Barto’s boyfriend) cleaning and cutting the carpet out of the passenger side floor of his vehicle at a Butler Township car wash on Thursday night. Another tipster told police she saw Ramsey and a friend at Walmart. A check with Walmart records showed Ramsey purchased 100 feet of rope and a tarp, and his friend purchased rubber gloves.
When police caught up with Ramsey during a traffic stop in Connoquenessing, his vehicle allegedly reeked of bleach and the front passenger seat was missing.
Authorities allege Ramsey shot Barto in the head three times during an argument in his vehicle. After his arrest, police attempted to interview Ramsey but he requested an attorney.
Police are continuing to search for Melissa Barto’s body. Ramsey remains held without bail in the Butler County Prison.
