Tis the season for fires? The Pennsylvania Fire Commissioner is offering advice in an effort to avoid holiday season fires.
Acting State Fire Commissioner Bruce Trego says check holiday lights for damage and throw away strands which are frayed or worn.
“Check the string lights from end to end to make sure there are no cracks, and no visible metal wire sticking out of the insulation,” he said. “Make sure you don’t overload an outlet or run multiple extension cords to lights.”
Many of us also burn candles during the holidays, which Trego says could present a big problem.
“Keep candles in sight,” he said.
Trego says cooking fires are also very common during the holiday season, so he recommends paying extra close attention in the kitchen.
