The South Butler County School Board will retain the district’s solicitor even after billing mistakes were discovered and acknowledged.
The school board approved a revised agreement with Tom Breth of the law firm Dillon, McCandless, King, Coulter, and Graham of Butler for $165 per hour. A previous agreement also included a $500 per month retainer covering one monthly meeting.
Breth acknowledged that the firm’s billing office mistakenly double-billed the district eight times since 2012. As a result, a total of about $5,000 was credited back to the South Butler School Business Office. District administrators were alerted to the error by a resident who had filed a Right to Know Request for Information.
A school district solicitor can be removed or replaced at any time if a majority of nine school board members present at a meeting vote to do so.
