Butler Township will receive help from the state paying for a project planned for a local park.
The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has announced that the township has been awarded a $180,000 grant for adding restroom facilities at Preston Park.
This is a 50/50 match grant so Butler Township is also responsible for putting $180,000 toward the project. That amount will be included in the 2019 budget but the township is applying for a Department of Community and Economic Development grant that could be used to cover part of that amount.
The plan is to purchase a pre-made concrete structure with four single room unisex flushing toilets. The structure will also likely have programmable locks as well as hand dryers. Areas with similar structures include Penn and Winfield Townships as well as Chicora.
A lot of additional work needs to be done so the bathrooms might not be in place until 2020. The park currently only has portable toilet facilities.
