The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Montreal Canadiens 5-2 last night at PPG Paints Arena. It was their fifth victory in a row, matching their longest winning streak of the season. The Pens had five different goal scorers, led by Evan Rodrigues who had a goal and two assists. Sidney Crosby added two assists and goaltender Tristan Jarry stopped 28 of 30 shots.
The Pens improved to 15-8-1 overall this season, and are now five points behind the first-place Washington Capitals in the Metropolitan Division. They host Buffalo Friday.
Former Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford has been hired as the president of hockey operations and interim general manager for the Vancouver Canucks. The 72-year old Rutherford was introduced Monday. Rutherford resigned from his post with the Penguins just seven games into the 2020-2021 season, citing personal reasons. Vancouver fired their head coach and other executives December 6th.
