The Los Angeles Kings defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1 last night at PPG Paints Arena. Sidney Crosby gave the Pens a 1-0 lead in the first period with a power play goal. It was Crosby’s 31st goal of the season, but the Penguins were shutout from there. The Kings scored twice in the third period. The game-winner came on a short-handed goal on a Penguins power play. The Pens went 1-for-5 on power plays during the game.
The loss put a damper on a special night in which Penguins legend Jaromir Jagr was honored in a 40-minute ceremony and had his #68 jersey number retired by the organization.
The Penguins have now lost four of their last five games and seven of their last 10. The are seven points out of a playoff spot with 30 games remaining. They host the New York Islanders Tuesday.
The Islanders lost to the New York Rangers 6-5 in overtime in a Stadium Series game. The game was played before more than 79,000 fans at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
