The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Montreal Canadiens 5-3 last night at PPG Paints Arena. Derick Brassard scored the game-winning goal for the Pens. Evgeni Malkin scored his 41st goal of the season. Sidney Crosby, Patric Hornqvist and Jake Guentzel added goals. Crosby earned his 700th career assist on the Guentzel goal. Casey DeSmith stopped 27 of 30 shots in the net for the Pens.
The victory put the Penguins back into second place in the Metropolitan Division. They are two points in front of Columbus and two points behind first-place Washington. The Capitols, Blue Jackets and Philadelphia Flyers all play tonight. The Pens will host the New Jersey Devils Friday night. The Pens host the Flyers Sunday afternoon.
