Butler will not be home to a medical marijuana grow and process operation in the near future.
On Tuesday, the Pennsylvania Department of Health announced the recipients of 12 grower/processor permits statewide.
Butler-based Cresco Yeltrah applied for one of the permits in the Southwest Region, where Butler County was grouped into. Two companies were awarded permits: Pure Penn in McKeesport, Allegheny County and AGRiMED Industries of PA in Carmichaels, Greene County.

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf signed a medical marijuana bill into law in April 2016. Patients can apply for a state-issued medical marijuana card if a doctor certifies they have one of 17 qualified medical conditions including epilepsy, cancer and seizure disorders.
