Former Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in his first turn on the ballot when the voting was revealed last night. Steroid-era stars Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens were denied entry in their final year under consideration by the Baseball Writers Association of America. Bonds, the former Pittsburgh Pirate, is a seven-time MVP and Major League Baseball’s all-time home run leader with 762. He received 66% of the votes. That is well shy of the 75% needed for induction. Ortiz, a 10-time All-Star was named on nearly 78% of ballots.
