A Butler High School graduate will be honored and remembered with a special event this weekend at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
“The IUP ROTC is going to have a color guard ceremony for Austin and then they’re going to do a memorial rugby game against Slippery Rock,” Tammy Osche told our newsroom. Osche is the mother of Austin Grupp who passed away in a car accident late last year.
The match will begin at 6:30 p.m. Saturday under the lights. In addition to graduating from Butler, the 21-year-old Connoquenessing native also played rugby at IUP and was in the Army Reserves.
Anyone who would like to attend this event is welcome, as friends and family remember a much-loved young man with a giving and caring sprit.
“We’re just truly grateful for what Austin’s team is doing for him. He has some really incredible friends and coaches and so many people love him. God really blessed us with an amazing son who was just taken too soon. I just want him to be remembered how he helped people. He helped his friends and he cared about everybody and we couldn’t be prouder of who he was,” Osche explained.
Grupp died December 29th when his vehicle lost control on Route 422 eastbound in Summit Township.
