The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the New England Patriots 41-33 in Super Bowl 52 last night. It was the first football championship for the city since 1960. The two teams combined for 1,151 yards of offense, a Super Bowl record.
Eagles quarterback Nick Foles was named the game’s MVP after throwing for 373 yards and three touchdowns. He also caught a pass for a touchdown. Tom Brady, who was named NFL regular season MVP over the weekend, threw for a Super Bowl record 505 yards and three touchdowns.
Eight former NFL players were elected Saturday to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Three linebackers and two wide recievers were elected. The list includes former linebackers for Baltimore Ravens Ray Lewis and Chicago Bears Brian Urlacher as well as receivers Randy Moss and Terrell Owens. Former Steelers offensive lineman Alan Faneca did not make the Hall despite being among the top 10 in votes.
Former Pitt defensive lineman Aaron Donald, of the Los Angeles Rams, was named the NFL’s defensive player of the year. Donald is the first pure defensive linemane to win the award since 1999. His teammate, running back Todd Gurley was named the offensive player of the year, and their head coach Sean McVay was named coach of the year.
