Butler County is awarding over $120,000 in grants to local municipalities for upgrades to community parks.
A total of 13 grants were approved by the county commissioners last week.
Some of the projects include funding for new playground equipment, updates to ballfields, and construction projects.
Each municipality is required to offer a local match in order to be eligible to receive county funding.
- City of Butler
- Purchase and installation of new playground equipment at Father Marinaro Park. The city recently received a DCNR Grant for a softball park, small playground area, two shelters, skateboarding park, and concession stand.
- Connoquenessing Borough
- Purchase and installation of new playground equipment for the Connoquenessing Borough Park. The new playground equipment would cater to smaller children.
- East Butler Borough
- Replacement of skins on four baseball fields and the purchase of the infield mix.
- Evans City Borough
- The Purchase and installation of playground border ties, new fall surface, and picnic table replacements
- Jefferson Township
- The removal of shingles and underlay, purchase and installation of new shingles on two pavilions.
- Lancaster Township
- Sandblasting and undercoat to existing playground structure. The purchase and installation of engineered wood fiber fall surface, mulching, replacement of existing park rules sings.
- Marion Township
- A new playground unit, new fall surface, site prep and repair of the fall surface border, removal of existing playground equipment. Funding will include a match from DCNR.
- Middlesex Township
- A new large playground unit, playground installation and fall surface. This project includes the match to a DCNR grant.
- Penn Township
- Purchase and installation of new swing wet and additional boundary area for an ADA swing set.
- Seven Fields Borough
- The purchase and restoration of areas in the Seven Fields Town Park building. The items to be replaced and renovated are to include the bathrooms, locker rooms, and concession area.
- Slippery Rock Borough
- Purchase and renovation of the old existing softball field. To include the removal of grass and vegetation, perform topography, laser grade surfacing, install infield mix and finish with groom to play.
- Slippery Rock Township
- The purchase of new picnic tables and trash cans to the outdoor picnic shelter.
