A local municipality has been awarded a large amount of money in low-interest funding to replace deteriorating sewer and water lines.
The low-interest loan to the Municipal Authority of Buffalo Township for just over $2.8 million will be funded through the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (also known as PENNVEST), which awards money for major infrastructure improvement projects.
According to local lawmakers, the funding will allow the authority, which serves over 3,000 households in Butler and Armstrong Counties, to complete two water-line projects.
One will add new drinking water service to 76 residences along Route 228 with many groundwater wells contaminated and of poor quality.
The other project is to replace severely deteriorated drinking water distribution lines in Freeport Borough with new gate valves and fire hydrants as well.
