People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals—better known as PETA—is hoping to reach meat-eaters at an upcoming event in Evans City.
Sadie Buckles is a Campaign Coordinator with PETA says people attending the Living Dead Weekend will see interesting signs on the sidewalk.
“PETA has placed ‘flesh is for zombie’ stencils on sidewalks around Evans City, to remind flesh eaters that going vegan is an absolute no brainer,” Buckles said.
Further, PETA believes that chickens, cows, pigs, and fish are all made of flesh just like people and share the capacity to experience suffering and fear.
This isn’t the first time PETA has capitalized on a zombie-themed event. They did the same at a Louisville Zombie walk to remind participants they do not need to eat flesh like a zombie. According to Buckles, this effort has the same goal.
The Living Dead Weekend is to commemorate the movie “Night Of the Living Dead,” which was filmed in Evans City and released in October 1968.
The event kicks off at 4 p.m. Friday.
(Events: movie screenings, tours, special guests, exhibits, photo ops, and a VIP dinner. The annual Pet Walk of the Living Dead will take place on Sunday beginning at noon.)
