Players and employees of Major League Baseball teams are taking part in a large study that will test up to 10,000 people for coronavirus antibodies, with the goal of researchers getting a better idea of how widespread the disease is in major U.S. metropolitan areas by using a big nationwide sample.
The study being run by Stanford University, the University of Southern California and the Sports Medicine Research and Testing Laboratory will include players, front-office staff, concession workers and others, and will show if someone was infected even if they were asymptomatic.
400 members of the Pittsburgh Pirates organization will voluntarily participate in the study.
