The North Catholic Robotics team will be hosting its inaugural For Inspiration and recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) event this weekend.
North Catholic will be hosting teams from Ohio, Eastern Pennsylvania, and New York thanks to Armstrong who is sponsoring the event. Along with sponsoring, they are also providing an arena for the competition. David Yackuboskey, is a teacher and the Robotics team Lead Mentor at North Catholic; he sees this event as a great opportunity to generate interest for STEM programs.
“We’re not hosting this competition to stand out amongst the competition. We’re hosting this primarily as a way to generate interest in the community for robotics and STEM education in general,” Yackuboskey said.
The North Catholic robotics team will be submitting two robots in this competition having two separate teams get more experience. But this event is also important for Yackuboskey so that his team can show off to the community.
“This year we did not qualify for the championships so that shortened our season a bit. So this is just another chance to get another play with the robots and bring community members in to see this scale of the robotics competition,” Yackuboskey said.
The deadline for teams to register for the event is Saturday May 27th.
