Although the wet weather may have delayed planting season, it’s that time of year when more farming equipment is on the road.
That’s why this past week is marked as Rural Road Safety week and local farmers are reminding people of good driving habits around farm equipment.
According to a PennDOT study in 2021 there were 80 crashes, including two fatalities, that involved farm equipment.
James Thiele is a farmer and he’s asking drivers to be safe saying farmers are just trying to get from one place to another.
“Please be patient and cautious. Farmers are trying to get to our field safely,” Thiele said. “The last thing we want to do is cause trouble or get in an accident.”
Thiele also says that most farm vehicles will only go about 20-25 miles per hour and says just to be patient to avoid a dangerous crash.
