The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Texas Rangers 7-5 Wednesday afternoon to complete a two-game series sweep. Starling Marte and Melky Cabrera had two hits each, and Bryan Reynolds had a three-run double. He now has hit in his first nine major league games.
Starting pitcher Jameson Taillon allowed three earned runs on five hits over 6-1/3rd innings. He walked two and struck out five to pick up his second win of the year. Felipe Vazquez earned his eighth save.
The win moved the Pirates back to .500 at 14-14. They remain five behind the first-place Cardinals, who won their fifth game in a row last night.
The Bucs are off today and host the Oakland Athletics for a three-game series at PNC Park beginning Friday. The A’s are six games into a nine-game road trip, and have lost all six games.
