Cranberry Township Police are being credited with ending a multi-state, multi-county crime spree when they arrested two men from Georgia this week.
Officers say Quentavious Price and Xavier Ferguson were hitting mailboxes, stealing outgoing mail and looking for checks from local businesses.
“They take the checks, they wash them, they rewrite them and cash them,” Sgt. Chuck Mascellino of the Cranberry Police told our news partners at WPXI-TV.
The suspects were reportedly spotted along Route 19 in Cranberry taking mail from mailboxes on Wednesday.
Police tracked down the suspects to the Red Roof Inn where they also allegedly found 22 counterfeit checks worth more than $50,000.
Police believe they’ve brought this scheme to northern Allegheny County and Ohio, in addition to Butler County.
The investigation continues.
