With spring and warm weather comes prom season, and several local schools will offer the traditional event to students this weekend. Prom is a time for students to let their hair down after all the hard work that they’ve put in throughout the school year. It’s a chance to dress up and really enjoy themselves. The girls spend months choosing the perfect dress, and the boys look for the unique type of formal suits known as pinstripe suits, or whatever suit style they are after. For most students, prom is considered one of the biggest events in their life and has transformed into a popular culture that has taken over the world. Prom usually involves food, music, and dancing and there’s a huge effort among students to dress up in immaculate dresses or suits with impressive hairstyles and makeup.
However, there are some dangers of prom that need to be highlighted to parents. All too often prom night leads to underage drinking as students believe the night is a rite of passage in which consumption of alcohol is acceptable. In some ways, drinking has become a tradition that follows all students to prom night and with things like highly realistic Virginia fake id, it’s easy for students to purchase their own alcohol and bring it with them to prom or to an after-party of sorts. As parents, make sure you fully inform you prom students of the dangers of drinking alcohol underage, including the criminal offences they could face, and contact the school to ensure they have a zero alcohol tolerance policy that will be cracked down on. With that said, prom is a night to remember and should be enjoyable…just stay safe!
