A woman was shot and killed in Butler County over the weekend by a man who she had a protection from abuse order against.
State Police say 62-year-old Mary Jo Kornick of Freeport and 72-year-old Nicholas Domek III of Pittsburgh had a history. In December, Domek was arrested for trying to kidnap Kornick in the parking lot of her work.
But it was on Saturday when Kornick and Domek crossed paths again.
Police say Kornick had just left work at Assisted Living at Rosebrook and turned onto Route 356 in Buffalo Township. Authorities believe she may have discovered she was being followed by Domek and swerved her car to get away. Police say Kornick crashed her car. It was in that moment that police say Domek pulled up next to her vehicle and shot.
Police say Kornick was alive when she was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, but she was later pronounced dead. Authorities then found Domek dead at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Pittsburgh’s Hazelwood neighborhood from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
State Police in Butler say their investigation into the entire incident is continuing.
