Local students are helping to fight hunger in our community through an upcoming fundraising event. Students were asked to come forward with middle school fundraising ideas that would help those within the local community. The students of Butler Middle School came up with a fundraising idea that they thought would be fun as well as helpful for those attending the event.
Ceramic bowls created by sixth grade students at the Butler Middle School will be sold on Tuesday, May 14 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Middle School Cafe.
For a minimum donation of $5, those attending will receive a handcrafted bowl and a scoop of ice cream. The program is called the “Empty Bowls Event.” All proceeds will benefit the Kids’ Weekend Backpack Program, which is an initiative to provide food during the weekends to kids in need.
The supplies for this project were made possible through a Creative Teaching Grant from the Golden Tornado Scholastic Foundation and the ice cream is being donated by Cummings Coffee. The students of Butler Middle School stated they were very excited about the upcoming event, with many of them already volunteering to help with the event place.
