Marjorie A. Madigan, age 96, of Butler, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, May 14, 2019 at her home, surrounded by family.
Born in Ramey, PA on September 6, 1922, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Margaret Shaw Echard.
She was a graduate of Houtzdale High School and the Altoona School of Commerce.
During World War II, Margie worked as a secretary for the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. For a few years in the 1970’s, Margie was a receptionist at the dental practice of her son, Dr. James Madigan.
Margie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Patrick R. Madigan, whom she married April 24, 1948, and who passed away September 14, 2010. They were high school sweethearts and were married for 62 years. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Gene Echard.
Margie enjoyed being a homemaker. She also enjoyed bowling, exercise class, dining with her husband at Natili North Restaurant, and spending the winter months in Venice, Florida. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Margie was a loving mother to her two children, Kathy (Mark) Mularski of Grayslake, IL, and Dr. James (Beverly) Madigan of Butler. She was also a proud grandmother of five grandchildren, Megan (Michael) Shields and Shannon Mularski; Patrick (Kelly) Madigan, Michael (Allison) Madigan, and Timothy (Brittnee) Madigan; and ten great-grandchildren, Liam, Rory, Sean, Makayla, Brody, Brayden, Hayden, Owen, and Madeline Madigan, and Mackenzie Shields.
Margie’s family would like to express a sincere thank-you to her wonderful homecare givers, who provided her with such loving care for the past nine months.
Friends will be received in the Martin Funeral Home, Inc., 429 Center Avenue, Butler, on Saturday, May 18, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at 12 noon.
The service will be held at the funeral home at 12 noon on Saturday with Pastor Jim Lewis, officiating.
Entombment will take place in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
