Some high school students in Butler took a day earlier this month to celebrate their differences and encourage positivity.
Intermediate students participated in “A Day Without Hate.”
The day was the outcome of anti-bullying program the students were introduced to this year. During the day, students created a banner that was signed by nearly every student in the school. They also created a chain that contained a positive message on every link.
The last piece of the day was the creation of a “brick wall” out of construction paper. Each student had the opportunity to share a personal quality on the brick that they possess, that in-turn enhances the entire school community.
‘A Day Without Hate’ is a student-led, grassroots organization that promotes nonviolence, unity and respect in schools. The day was born following the shootings at Virginia Tech in 2007.
