Last month, the local police force started a campaign against drink driving as the number of accidents caused by drunk drivers increases around this time of year. They hoped that if people knew there was an increased police presence then fewer people would make the mistake of driving after having a few drinks. The police have now released the results from this last month’s efforts for DUI enforcement.
A DUI Checkpoint was held in Butler County during the Memorial Day holiday weekend as recent statistics showed that this was the most “popular” weekend for drink driving. People spend the weekend celebrating with friends and family so there are a lot more drivers on the road. No one wants to be the designated driver but this still isn’t an excuse for drink driving.
According to State Police at the Butler barracks, a total of 91 vehicles were stopped and 12 DUI arrests were made. This made it the most successful DUI campaign the police department has held. However, if you or a loved one were one of the people arrested on the weekend then you will likely need a DUI defense lawyer to provide you legal help so you can reduce whatever sentence you’re given.
Police also made two misdemeanor criminal arrests, three warrant arrests, handed out 25 summary traffic citations and 19 written warnings. While these weren’t related to the efforts to reduce drink driving, it was still successful for the department.
State police say more DUI checkpoints are planned through the summer months.
If you are currently facing potential DUI charges, you might find it helpful to reach out to a DUI lawyer for legal representation.
