Some renovations have already been completed to the playground at Butler Memorial Park, but more are coming.
The work is being spearheaded by the Butler AM Rotary.
Rotary’s Peggy Weckerly says phase one of the project was completed last fall and included new play equipment for toddlers ages 2-5.
“But that’s only one small part of the project,” Weckerly said in an interview with Butler Radio. “What we’re looking to do at Butler Memorial is to bring it back to where it really should be. We want it to be accessible to everyone- people with wheelchairs and canes and walkers- because grandparents and parents bring their kids.”
Phase two of the work will be larger than phase one.
“This one is larger- this will be for ages 5-12,” she said. “Much larger pieces of equipment will be brought in. Some of the play sections will be for kids with autistic tendencies, in addition to all the other things we’re looking to do.”
The Butler AM Rotary is the organization that built the Purple Park in Alameda Park in Butler Township.
“We hope as we put more equipment in the Butler Memorial playground, and get the sidewalks fixed, more people are going to want to use it,” she said. “We took on this park because we knew it needed something.”
