A drug bust on the Pennsylvania Turnpike is likely the largest seizure of straight fentanyl in western Pennsylvania history.
State police troopers say they discovered three pounds six ounces of fentanyl hidden inside an SUV driven by 41-year-old Juana Guzman of New York City.
The vehicle was pulled over Monday in Allegheny County. Police said the contraband was found in a secret compartment behind the radio.
The SUV’s owner- 40-year-old Hector Taveras also of NYC- was a passenger.
Both men were being held in the Westmoreland County Prison after failing to post $1 million bail each. Preliminary hearings are scheduled for next week (July 18).
Officers say the fentanyl would likely be worth well over $1 million on the street.
