The City of Butler continues to explore options for replacing their firefighting ladder truck.
Part of that process is taking a look at demonstration trucks that are being shown in the area, as was the case last week.
Butler Mayor Ben Smith said during a city council meeting on Wednesday that city officials have taken advantage of seeing trucks that have traveled through the area.
“There’s only so many demos out there, because ladder trucks are so expensive to build,” Smith said. “So if have one coming through your area, and you don’t take the chance to see it, you’re going to have to travel to see it later.”
This was the third time this year that city officials have taken advantage of the opportunity to see how the new trucks are able to maneuver around the city.
Officials say all funding options are being considered, including leasing a ladder truck.
The city sold its partially-functioning ladder truck in June 2018. Since then, the city has relied on a ladder truck owned by the Butler Township Fire Department when necessary.
