Butler City Council is applying for a state grant that would help to repair and replace sidewalks on Main Street.
The Multi-Model Transportation Fund grant being requested would be for $600,000 from PennDOT for sidewalks from Brady to Wayne Streets including making curbs and crosswalks ADA compliant.
This grant would include a 30% local match with possible assistance available from the county but it is still very early in the process according to Mayor Ben Smith.
“Either way we’re not committing that money,” Smith said. “We’re applying for a grant that’s free money, if we’re awarded it, then we’ll try to come up with some matching funds.”
Most of the information needed for the grant was already gathered when applying for a previous grant so the only expense the city will take on now to explore this possibility is a $100 application fee.
The City does not expect to hear back about the awarding of these grants until the end of summer 2020.
