The Butler Area School board is taking a closer look at a revision to a policy that focuses on bullying.
Following a recommendation from school administrators, the school board unanimously approved the first reading of a policy that would cover anti-bullying efforts as well as cyber bullying.
Rules about these kinds of behaviors are currently contained in the school’s discipline policy but this new change would modernize and separate the part about different kinds of bullying into its own policy.
Butler currently employs a school cyber security officer to investigate incidents that contain an online component and determine if the district has jurisdiction to issue punishment.
The second reading and adoption of this policy could occur as soon as the board’s next meeting on January 27th but the process could continue with additional proposed changes and revisions.
