If you are looking for something to do while stuck in the house, why not fix that leaky faucet?
National Fix a Leak Week runs though this weekend and the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission is encouraging residents to check fixtures for leaks.
Water wasted due to leaky faucets can have a big impact financially and environmentally. The PUS recommends that residents review water usage during a colder month and check water meters before and after a two hour period of no use. Toilet leaks can be checked by placing a drop of food coloring in the tank and if water in the bowl turns color in less than 10 minutes, there is a leak.
According to a report from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 10% of all homes have leaks that waste 90 gallons or more of water every day and average household wastes more than 10,000 gallons each year.
