The Mars Area School District is pushing back the first day students will be in class.
At a special meeting on Thursday, the board voted to make Tuesday, September 8th the first day of school for students.
According to Superintendent Dr. Mark Gross, administration requested the change as a result of unexpected delays in the delivery of necessary technology supplies. The district is also waiting on the delivery of classroom furniture to help maintain social distancing. Finally, an issue affecting the district’s internet network delayed teacher training.
Originally, Mars students were to start on Monday August 31st—but the first four days will now be considered Act 80 Days and an in-service day for staff has been moved to Friday, September 4th so none of those days will have to be made up by students. Some Act-80 days and in-service days later in the year have been eliminated.
