The City of Butler has entered into an agreement with a company to provide a comprehensive evaluation of all the sidewalks in the city to identify ones that violate the city’s regulations.
At their meeting Thursday night, Council approved the plan proposed by Precision Safe Sidewalks to address this safety concern at no cost to the city.
Property owners are required by the city to allow no more than three-quarters of an inch between sections of sidewalk and a section with a gap greater than that is in violation and must be addressed.
Precision will conduct a city-wide survey and identify violations then make recommendations and provide estimates concerning repairs. Property owners do not have to use this particular company but repairs are necessary or fines will be given 60 days after notification.
The survey is expected to begin sometime in the next couple of weeks with the Institute Hill neighborhood of the city. Depending on how much time that section takes, the rest of the survey could stretch into next year before completion.
