The City of Butler is continuing the process to replace their firefighting ladder truck.
At their regular meeting on Tuesday, City Council approved a motion to look into obtaining quotes for a 15 year lease with financing options for a new aerial fire truck. Council previously approved a similar motion last December that was not followed up on due to issues connected to the ongoing pandemic
The total purchase price of the 2021 Pierce Arrow XT 100 foot Mid-Mount Tower Ladder is nearly $1.3 million but the first payment would be deferred up to 12 months so as to be due in late 2021. The municipal leasing program includes a discounted interest rate.
According to Butler City Fire Chief Chris Switala, delivery would take place between 10 and 12 months after the order is placed but the action taken is not yet to place the order. Instead, this action deals with exploring financing options.
The city sold its partially-functioning ladder truck in June 2018. Since then, the city has relied on a ladder truck owned by the Butler Township Fire Department when necessary.
