With fall here and cooler temperatures right around the corner, energy officials are making sure residents practice space heater safety.
Heating equipment is the second leading cause of home fires, and can be linked to space heaters being too close to furniture, clothing, or bedding.
Officials say make sure your heater is on a non-flammable floor and that it’s at least three feet away from any type of furniture or flammable item.
They also say not to use a propane, or gas powered heater in a house or garage because it can produce dangerous carbon monoxide levels.
