Even though they won’t be coming to Western Pennsylvania right away, state health officials are getting ready to introduce 250,000 rapid antigen COVID-19 tests to its residents.
Dr. Michael Huff is the testing czar for Pennsylvania, and he says these new tests will give people an opportunity to get their COVID results in a short amount of time.
“Essentially, it’s about the size of a credit card that’s folded. You open it up; you take a drop of the extractor, and you put it into the circle titled extractor. Then you take the swab and you basically get a sample from the nose. It’s not a nasopharyngeal, it’s just the nose,” Huff said.
Results are expected to be given in about 15 minutes according to Huff.
He said that the first shipment of these tests will be distributed to the center of the state, which is seeing an increase in the number of cases.
