A Butler County municipality will receive funding assistance from the state to help pay for a major wastewater treatment project.
Marion Township has been awarded a $2.7 million grant along with a nearly $1.4 million low-interest loan to install a new wastewater treatment plant for residents in the Boyers and Atwells Crossing areas.
This funding will also allow for the placement of more than 15,000 feet of sewer lines that will replace the outdated and frequently malfunctioning system currently in place. According to State Senator Scott Hutchinson, this project will correct an issue in which some inadequately treated sewage has drained into Slippery Rock Creek.
This financing is available through the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority or PENNVEST which draws from federal funding along with prior bond issues by the state.
