The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services is warning residents about possible scams concerning public assistance programs.
Some people have been receiving calls with a pre-recorded message about getting pandemic-related EBT benefits faster by providing a social security number. The speaker claims to be from a county assistance office.
The Department of Human Services and other government agencies will not ask for information about public assistance programs through unsolicited or random calls or texts.
Residents should not respond to any requests like that by providing such personal information as that could end up being an identity theft scam. Anyone with questions about the legitimacy of a communication should call the Statewide Customer Service Center of the DHS Office of Income Maintenance.
