The Mars Area teachers’ union has voted to authorize its leaders to call for a work stoppage by giving 48 hours notice if negotiators are unable to reach a contract agreement with the school district.
The strike authorization vote of Mars Area Education Association members took place Monday after the negotiation team expressed disappointment with what they maintain is a lack of good faith bargaining by the district.
A release from the union states that teachers are seeking better working conditions and salary raises that would put them in line with teachers at Moniteau, Karns City, and Slippery Rock school district.
According to the Education association, union negotiators have made monthly requests to meet with the district and the district has canceled two of the most recent meetings. The union also alleges that the district has declined to make any proposal since the beginning of 2020.
The next scheduled negotiation meeting is planned for November 23rd.
