Like many of events canceled due to COVID-19, there will be no Veterans Day parade today in downtown Butler.
Director of Veteran Services John Cyprian said the coronavirus restrictions make it difficult to execute a parade.
“There was this mathematical formula where you had to do per thousand people with how many square feet, and are you able to social distance. How is an organizer going to know how many people are going to show up to a parade?” Cyprian said.
“In the interim, all your units are canceling because they can’t socially distance. So all of the bands weren’t able to come,” Cyprian said.
Instead there will be a ceremony honoring the armistice starting at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday on the Diamond.
Cyprian said there will be speakers and gun fire at 11 a.m. to honor the armistice.
“When the original armistice was signed, there was a two minute world-wide observance of silence. We kind of want to emulate that,” Cyprian said.
