An annual Butler tradition is still continuing despite the ongoing pandemic and the recent passing of its founder.
The Turkey Round Up has been around since 1991 and was founded by Dale Pinkerton. Dale’s wife Millie said that in order to honor Dale’s legacy and to support the community, the Turkey Round Up will continue.
“Dale started this 29 years ago, and so to honor this year, and because of the need in the community, our Rotary club has decided to continue with it,” Millie Pinkerton said.
Dale Pinkerton died in January of this year.
The initiative raises money for local food banks and churches who run community dinner programs. Since the program has started, it’s raised $514,000.
“We are taking donations and getting cash from people as we speak,” Pinkerton told our newsroom.
She also said that the community’s response is always overwhelming, including the same woman that sends her donation every year.
“There’s one woman in this area, and I’m not sure who she is, but that faithful woman since 1991 has sent a $10 bill to the initiative, and she’s always the first one,” Pinkerton said. “It truly is amazing.”
To make a donation, you can send cash or check to Butler Rotary Turkey Roundup, P.O. Box 1081 Butler, PA 16003.
Donations will be accepted through December 31st.
