It was another annual tradition that was impacted by the coronavirus, but organizers of the Hang Tough Stocking Stuffer program are thanking the community for making this year a success.
Sharon Schneider is one of the co-founders of the initiative.
“I was praying for a lot of stockings to come in, but not sure how much the community could support. Not about would support, but could support,” co-founder of the organization Sharon Schneider said. “But it ended that they pulled through. We live in a community that’s very giving.”
Hang Tough delivers stockings to cancer patients in Butler County that contains various items for the holiday season. In total, 1,485 stockings were donated.
“We had every place that wanted them, received them. We were also able to give out more then we had anticipated and share the wealth,” Schneider said.
Schneider also said the group was short on volunteers this year due to the pandemic. But, thanks to generous community members, the tradition was kept alive.
“I received a card from a little lady, that was an inspirational note that said, ‘Here’s $100 and please stuff stockings because if these patients need a pick-me-up it’s during a pandemic,'” Schneider said. “That was very inspiring and kept pushing me forward.”
Schneider also thanked the Butler Volunteer Fire District Three for giving them space at the Meridian Fire Hall to store the stockings.
