The Butler Health System continues to see an increase in hospitalizations as well as deaths due to the pandemic.
With data directly from the health system, as of Monday, November 30,2020, the Butler Hospital is currently treating 40 patients for COVID-19 with 7 people in the ICU. Looking at data from the past many months, 40 patients is the highest number the hospital has treated at one time seen since the pandemic started.
Concerning the number of deaths with the Butler Health System, November saw the highest number of deaths in one month. In November alone, there were 21 individuals who were reported to have passed due to COVID-19. Comparing that number to October, there were less than 5 Butler County residents who died due to the coronavirus last month.
Talking recently to Dr. John Love, Infectious Disease Specialist with the Butler Health System, he told us the hospital has a few contingency plans to expand room for patients if needed that were developed at the beginning of the pandemic. Those alternative plans are available to be considered, although Dr. Love says staffing is more of a concern than space at this point. There has been no word if the hospital will be enacting any of their contingency plans for space at this time.
The pandemic has affected this country for months now and if we expand our look to the county through the Department of Health, data shows 75 individuals from Butler County have died due to the COVID-19 as of November 30, 2020.
Deaths registered for Butler County can come from health systems in or out of the area. If a Butler County resident dies while out of the county, the death is still registered as a death for Butler County. Also, Butler County has more than one health system reporting their numbers to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
