Snow shovels and plows were active Thursday morning as Butler dug out of one of the biggest snow events that has ever happened in the month of December.
With snow starting around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, it didn’t let up until early morning Thursday.
Lee Hendricks with the National Weather Service says that the county saw a large range of different snow totals.
“Right now, from all of the data we’ve received, general snowfall amounts we’ve gotten from across Butler County ranged from seven inches to 16 inches,” Hendricks said.
He said the 16 inch report came from Cabot. The NWS also received reports of 13 inches in Sarver, and 12 inches in Slippery Rock.
Historically, the 24 hour total is a top five snow event for December according to Hendricks.
“This is tied with number four on the list, which happened in Dec. 31, 1897 with 10 inches,” Hendricks said.
