Governor Tom Wolf is moving money in the state budget to help out small businesses.
Wolf says he initiated a $145 million transfer from the state’s Workers Compensation Fund to the General Fund.
“That money will be available for the general assembly to appropriate them for either loans or grants to businesses in need, including restaurants and bars,” Wolf said.
Wolf is asking for the legislature to act quickly to disperse the funds. Republicans in the state house have said though that Wolf’s restrictions have put restaurants in this situation.
“When the [legislature] wants to, so they come back in the first week of January, I’m hoping they can move on this fairly quickly,” Wolf said. “This is something that I don’t think should be a controversial issue. The money is there.”
The process to distribute these funds was not immediately revealed by the state.
