Thomas “Butch” Maksanty, age 77, of Butler, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2021 in Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born September 24, 1943 in Butler, he was the loving son of Joseph and Matilda Franek Maksanty.
Tom graduated from Butler High School in 1961, the first graduating class at its current location. He joined the Pennsylvania National Guard, and he liked to tell stories of his time at Fort Indiantown Gap. He was employed as a crane operator at Armco and retired from there.
Tom was an avid hunter and fisherman. In his early years he made many trips to Rice Lake, Canada, with his mom and dad. He enjoyed spending time at camp in Boyers, Pa., with his buddies. He was a treasured and beloved member of the families of his cousins, Barb Walls and John Denny, and their children and grandchildren, who fondly called him “Uncle Butchie”.
He was a member of Saint Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. He belonged to American Legion Post 117 of Butler.
Tom is survived by his aunt, Virginia B. Denny, and many cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by many uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, a private Blessing Service was held, with Rev. Kevin Fazio officiating.
Burial took place in Saint Michael’s Cemetery.
The family thanks Dr. Mark Carlsson and Dr. Angela Rhoades and the nurses and staff of five main and the seventh floor of Butler Memorial Hospital for the kind and compassionate care they provided to Tom.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Martin Funeral Home, Inc., 429 Center Avenue, Butler.
