A new election review commission for Butler County aims to improve elections in the future.
The county commissioners voted to establish the commission at Wednesday’s public meeting.
According to commissioners, the purpose of the new commission is to:
- Review and understand the elections process in its entirety as presented by the current Butler county Elections Director, who is Aaron Sheasley.
- Identify the strengths and weaknesses in internal Election Bureau processes and in the application of the current Pennsylvania Election Code, Act 77, and Department of State directives.
- Issue a report with recommendations to be available to the public, all elected officials, state associations, and to the Butler County Board of Electoins.
The 13-person bipartisan commission will have election representatives and members of different political parties. There will also be judges of elections from rural, suburban, and urban locations to help provide an “in-person precinct” voting perspective.
Commissioners expect the commission to form in early February. Members of the committee could be named at the next public meeting.
